Maybe the Occupiers Should Sing and Dance For You

The Occupy Wall Street Protesters have decked themselves in business suits and are plotting to infiltrate the New York Stock Exchange, as their movement becomes two months old today. Having lost their position in Zuccotti Park, the movement seems to be in shambles. And more importantly, they're losing support.

Rent premiered on Broadway at the Nederlander Theatre, which is just at 10 minute walk from Zuccotti Park. It is a beloved American musical, and it's about impoverished artists and teachers living in the lower east side of Manhattan. They are living at a time when Aids was spreading thru all communities but hitting the poor like a plague. With no healtcare or heat, all they have is each other.

As you know, Rent was based on a Puccini opera, so this is not a new message. But maybe, if it's once again packaged into a singing and dancing fantasy, people will finally get on board with OWS. And one day, 'Occupy' can be followed by Liza Minnelli on the Tony Awards.
