Clodius was caught sneaking into the home of Julius Caesar, dresses as a woman. He was trying to make it up to the Pompeia's room.
This was the greatest celebrity scandal of the ancient world! Being political allies, Caesar could not publicly acknowledge Clodius was plowing his wife. Yet, he could not bare the embarrassment either.
So, he denied the affair, and still divorced her saying, "my wife ought not even to be under suspicion."
There are going to be more questions about Julius Ceasar and old Rome. I find it very interesting, and so will you? Ceasar was kind of like a punk rock superstar in old Rome. The older politicians didn't the like the way he dressed. He wore a baggy toga. They questioned his sexuality. They called him a names. And, they plotted against him. You're gonna love it!
