It's Just Another Manic ... wait, Tuesday??

I chose today's Q because today is a huge day for the movie market. Many of the summer blockbusters are coming out, today, strategically just before Christmas.

Why do movies and music mostly come out on Tuesdays?

Data collecting for Nielsen SoundScan begins every Monday. This is the best reason that I could find as to why CDs, DVDs and Blu-Rays are released on Tuesdays. I'm not sure if there is an official reason. At least, I couldn't find one. If you can, let me know.

Nielsen SoundScan is the industry standard for the point of sale tracking of albums. Since May 26, 1991, the Billboard 200's positions have been derived from Nielsen SoundScan sales data

  • Monday – sales tracking begins

  • Sunday – sales tracking ends

  • Wednesday - SoundScan is published

  • Thursday – new Billboard chart is published, with issue date of the following Saturday
For example, the current number-one album (as of the issue dated December 10, 2011) on the Billboard 200 is Christmas by Michael Bublé Christmas - Michael Bublé

Movies are a little different. They are charted by Nielson VideoScan.";
echo " Again, there's no official answer that I could find. But I can speculate that it's because they share the same distribution channels as CDs. Also, Tuesday is usually the lowest day of the week in movie theater attendance. People like to stay home on Tuesdays.

Perhaps there is no official reason, because there are many reasons.

Just Out Today!
